Proctitis could be caused by allergies, parasites, infections, or an intestinal blockage. The rectum and anus are both parts of the large intestine. The anus is the actual opening where feces is passed through, and the rectum connects the anus to the colon.
Whether they live exclusively indoors or spend time outside, pet cats may become host to internal parasites such as roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms. Because it is relatively easy for a cat to acquire worms, it is a good idea to know the warning signs so you can seek veterinary treatment for the problem early on. Getting rid of worms is relatively easy with the correct worming medication, and with a little knowledge, it's also easy to determine if your cat might have worms.
At some point, your cat will probably get fleas - don't worry, you are not the first, and you certainly won't be the last! Fleas are the most common external parasite of cats. The second most commonly seen tapeworm is called Taenia taeniaeformis and is linked to small mammals, birds and reptiles. Tapeworms can live up to two years if untreated, but often do not cause great harm to their host.
